The Hall in Lairgate, Beverley was an absolutely unique development opportunity, the likes of which are only seen once in a generation.
We were delighted to win the bid to be involved in this historically significant project, working with a building which was the headquarters of East Riding Council – and one of only five Grade I* listed buildings in the country. The winning of the bid was in itself a major achievement, testament to the regard in which we are held in the market.
Originally built in 1750, the building is steeped in history and features beautiful ornate ceiling plastering, stucco wall panelling and Chinese wallpapering, imported by the Warton family, who occupied the Hall from 1802 to 1925. All of this sumptuous detail was retained during the development process, preserving the atmosphere of the period.
The Hall is set in extensive landscaped grounds which feature Grade II Listed Georgian Stamp Standards and ample parking facilities. At the same time as being a timeless testimony to the history and taste of its former owners, the property offered all the facilities required by modern businesses.
The Grade I listed status meant that The Hall had to be made available to the public. By retaining the building’s use as offices, we ensured it remained a public building, to be opened and enjoyed by members of the public on a regular and ongoing basis. We also added 5,000-6,000 square feet of space, creating one of the most desirable working environments imaginable.
The building is arranged over two floors, with medium and large office suites that are attractively decorated, bright and fully heated. The development also benefits from a high level of security to restrict access to business occupiers, their employees, visitors by appointment and authorised contractors.
The Hall is situated in the heart of Beverley, occupying perhaps one of the most prestigious and strategic locations in the region. Beverley is one of East Yorkshire’s most elegant market towns, characterised by its wealth of classical Georgian architecture and the splendour of its Minster.
Hull, York, Leeds and Scarborough are all easily accessed by car. Connection to the national motorway network via the M62 is 20 miles from Beverley town centre. Beverley itself is one of East Yorkshire’s most elegant market towns, and offers superb shopping and leisure amenities with a wide variety of boutiques, antique dealers, art and craft shops, public houses, bistros and restaurants.
